Morning everyone! I asked you to bring headphones or earphones, because I thought it would be funny and intimate to sit around and listen to my five-minute audio presentation together. I mean, this is also for a practical reason because my throat is still a bit swollen. So I am going to whisper now. But first, can you all hear me well? If so, hum for 5 seconds. 5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1 Cool. Okay, now the presentation begins. Minor Stories is a multi-format sharing/publishing project that sheds light on vulnerable and intimate feelings that people experience yet often brush aside. I intend to share vulnerable or seemingly unimportant stories through intimate ways of storytelling. By doing so, I will propose intimate storytelling as a careful and affective publishing methodology, which I will later call, intimate publishing. Now you may wonder, what is intimacy? Winnie also asked me that question… What constitutes intimacy for you? The following list is an ongoing search for that question. Intimacy is a powerful feeling that can disarm our cold cold hearts. Intimacy is a tactic to create an imaginary and temporary space. Intimacy is a way to create a space for ‘us’. Intimacy is a strategy to encourage caring minds and embrace otherness. Intimacy is an ambivalent space, not only embracing positive feelings but also negative ones. Intimacy is about practicing slowness. Intimacy is about paying attention to the fragilities around us. (We don’t have enough time so, I will move on… But you get the point. I want to keep exploring through prototyping class and thesis writing.) Since the beginning of this semester, I have started to list out gestures or moments that I find intimate. What we are doing right now—this (손짓으로 우리를 상황 가리키키)—is also one of them. Or… also….(5초, 주머니에서 쪽지꺼내기) this! Or… maybe…(5초, 나비) this as well?! Or maybe not…!?(갸우뚱) I want to know! (고개끄덕) Anyways, if you scan the QR code in front, you can check the list of what I call intimate methodologies. It still needs to be translated, edited, and developed… Okay, now we reach to the ending of our presentation. Before ending this, I want to ask you: Please share with me, what kind of materials, gestures, or settings you feel intimate. Thank you. Ciao ciao.
