Awkward assumptions

During a conference at a university, I invited a guy.
I did my talk, and when it finished, in an informal meeting that we had also with people from the hacklab, speakers were asking other speakers...
They asked me:
-Are you here because you fell in love?
What a clever conclusion...
Why do you even ask this?
I didn't answer anything at that moment. The other guy answered really fast. I was not prepared for such a question.
